Flutter by...

We woke up yesterday itching to get out of the house, but unsure what to do with ourselves. Thankfully Elijah had an idea. He was drawing in a little notebook showing me all the pictures of butterflies that he had made. that reminded me that there was a butterfly conservatory only fifteen minutes away that would make the perfect winter field trip. We made sure to get dressed in vibrant colors, since we had read that butterflies are attracted to bright colors and perhaps wearing a bright red or purple would entice them to land on you.
Elijah understood that we were going to see butterflies, but until we actually walked in to the conservatory I don't think he was quite prepared for the amount of butterflies we would see. There were butterflies, of every color, everywhere! Green ones, red ones, orange ones, spotted ones, and blue ones - which were Elijah's favorite.

Of course, as soon as we entered the tropic like environment of the conservatory my camera lens got all fogged up. But it did make for some dream-like quality photos. Almost right away a butterfly landed on Marc. His red shirt was quite the butterfly magnet.

We spent over an hour there, just walking around the garden, looking at butterflies, birds and the various reptiles that lived there. It was quite warm and peaceful, and it almost made me forget that it was below freezing outside with a snowstorm on its way.
