Bugging out
I thought we had gotten through the winter untouched. I had heard stories of other friends catching...the bug. The dreaded pukey bug. Last year we were hit hard. All three of us got it, with Elijah having it for almost a week and losing two or three pounds, which really took a toll on his small frame. But, this year we had miraculously steered clear from it. That is, until this weekend. Elijah had been complaining that he had an "owie belly" which I thought was due to some constipation he was dealing with. Marc was working 9-9 on Saturday, so Elijah and I went on a date to get some burritos. While he was still in his regular good spirits, Elijah continued to complain of an "owie belly." I had hoped that our walk home might help, but he was really starting to sound like he was in pain once we got home. I sat on the couch and he crawled up into my lap, gave me the saddest look ever and then BLAM! all the beans, cheese, tortilla and guacamole he had eaten for dinner were all over the both of us. I sat there, unsure what to do. How could I minimize getting the puke over the couch, the floor, the rug, etc... Poor Elijah was simultaneously crying and apologizing. I ended up just sacrificing a nearby blanket and stripped us both of all our clothes, dumped them on the blanket to clean up later and whisked us away to the relief of a hot shower. Elijah calmed down and really enjoyed the shower. After the shower he fell asleep right away and slept for almost twelve hours straight. He woke up, immediately puked once more and that was it. I was so thankful that we only had to deal with two pukes. It was a bit harder trying to explain to Elijah why eating an orange for a snack with a raw tummy might not be the best idea, but he enjoyed getting to eat as many bananas and as much applesauce as he wanted. Thankfully, Elijah is all better now, which thrills him, because limiting his diet was not fun for any of now. At least now he can munch on one of his favorite snacks...Bamba (and Israeli treat that Saba & Savta sometimes bring).
